"The Palestine conflict has the ability to spill over into other societies that makes it unique among conflicts in the world. I myself have no problem with raising the Israeli flag in solidarity, but I think there will be protests against it in some quarters.

Already, demonstrations have been held in several places in Sweden that can be perceived as a celebration of Hamas's attacks on Israel.

"When there is unrest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we see historically that anti-Semitic incidents increase in Sweden. This was the case during the Gaza war in 2008-2009 and 2014," says Anders Persson.

In some municipalities, including Jönköping, there is political disagreement about whether the flag should be raised or not. Those who are positive have highlighted in several places that the Ukrainian flag was raised in connection with Russia's war of aggression on the country. But raising the Israeli flag can be seen as more controversial, according to Anders Persson.
