The magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook Herat province on Saturday. It was followed by several aftershocks.

People have fled their homes for fear of new quakes, including Abd al-Shakor Samadi, who lives in the city of Herat.

"Houses, offices and shops are empty. I was at home with my family when I felt the ground shake," he told the Associated Press.
