Six minors implicated in the murder of Professor Samuel Paty will be tried from November 27 to December 8 by the juvenile court in Paris, said Monday a judicial source. The hearing will be held in camera.

Five of them will be charged with criminal conspiracy to prepare aggravated violence. They are accused of having monitored the surroundings of the college and designated the teacher to the assailant, in return for payment. A sixth teenager, who was 13 years old at the time of the facts, will be tried for slanderous denunciation, after admitting a lie about the content of a lecture by Samuel Paty that she had not actually attended.

She said that during the class, the teacher asked Muslim students to report and go out before showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. This lie was at the origin of the violent campaign fueled on social networks by the schoolgirl's father, Brahim Chnina, and the Islamist militant Abdelhakim Sefrioui, of whom the assailant, Abdullakh Anzorov, had become aware.

Brahim Chnina and Abdelhakim Sefrioui will be tried later for criminal terrorist criminal association before the assizes. On October 16, 2020, the 47-year-old history-geography teacher was stabbed and beheaded near his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) by Abdullakh Anzorov, a Russian refugee of Chechen origin. This radicalized Islamist had been shot dead in the wake by the police.

In an audio message in Russian, he claimed responsibility for his action by congratulating himself for having "avenged the Prophet". In this case, which had caused a huge stir in France and abroad, six other people will also be tried before the assizes: two friends of the assailant will be tried for complicity in terrorist murder and four others for criminal terrorist criminal association.
