Joe Biden spoke on Sunday about the "shutdown" and urged Republicans to stop "playing" with the threat of banking paralysis. The US president also wanted to reassure Ukraine if the country were to cease its economic activities, assuring that the country at war would not be abandoned.

US President Joe Biden promised Sunday that the United States would not abandon Ukraine at war, and urged Republicans to stop "playing" with the threat of a "shutdown" after a provisional agreement was reached in extremis on Saturday. "I want to say to our allies, to the American people and to the people of Ukraine, you can count on our support. We will not abandon" Ukraine, he said in a televised address from the White House.

The agreement voted Saturday by the US Congress to postpone the deadline of the "shutdown" by 45 days has indeed left aside additional aid to Kiev. "There is a sense of urgency" to approve a new funding measure for Ukraine in the coming days and weeks, Biden said, also castigating Republicans who are demanding deep cuts in government spending. "Enough is enough. (...) I'm tired of brinkmanship," he said. He continued: "This policy (...) must stop. There must be no other crisis."
