Ottawa, 9 Sep (Zhongxin Net) -- On the evening of 29 September, the Chinese Embassy in Canada held a reception to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Cong Peiwu, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, said in his speech that there are many uncertainties in today's world, but one thing is certain, that is, China's development and contribution to the international community.

In his speech, Cong Peiwu used a large number of data and vivid facts to introduce the development achievements made by the CPC under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China over the past 74 years since the founding of New China. At the same time, he focused on President Xi Jinping's concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the fruitful results of the "Belt and Road" initiative, and China's bright economic prospects.

He said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the past 10 years, the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has been carried out at a steady pace and with frequent successes. China is committed to building a road of prosperity, peace and civilization.

Cong Peiwu said that facts have repeatedly proved that healthy and stable China-Canada relations conform to the common interests of the two peoples. However, at present, China-Canada relations are facing a difficult situation, which China does not want to see. If some people continue to use the "Cold War mentality" to understand China, it will only make China-Canada relations a tragedy without winners. He stressed that the Canadian side should meet China halfway, uphold the spirit of mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences, and push the relations between the two countries back on track.

More than 300 people, including Canadian dignitaries, envoys from various countries in Canada, friendly people from all walks of life, overseas Chinese, representatives of Chinese-funded institutions and international students, attended the reception. The guests spoke highly of China's development achievements, were generally optimistic about China's economic prospects, and expressed their willingness to continue to promote friendly exchanges between China and Canada.

The reception was warm, with Chinese and foreign friends celebrating the festival, enjoying traditional cultural performances dedicated by local artists and watching the "Belt and Road" photo exhibition.
