It is reported that this is a key project of sand prevention and control implemented in Qinghai after the launch of the Hexi Corridor-Taklamakan Desert Edge Blockade of the National "Three North" Project, which is of great significance to further promote the construction of a demonstration province of national parks, build a solid ecological security barrier on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and maintain national ecological security.

Qinghai Gonghe Basin is located on the edge of the Hexi Corridor-Taklamakan Desert, and in the past, oasis farmland, towns and villages, industrial and mining bases, highways and railways, and the ecological environment in this area were harmed by wind and sand, reducing crop yields, grass yields, and environmental pollution, affecting production and life.

Zhao Haiping, deputy director of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Qinghai Province, said that after the unremitting efforts of generations of sand control people, the spirit of "sand pearl jade" has emerged here, positive results have been achieved in sand prevention and control, and the harm of wind and sand has gradually weakened.

"As the main line of defense to build a solid ecological security barrier in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, Hainan Prefecture will continue to strengthen the protection and governance of wetland, forest, grassland and desert ecosystems by relying on major ecological protection and restoration projects in key areas and relevant provincial and prefecture plans, effectively enhance ecosystem stability, and significantly improve the ecological service function of the ecological barrier on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau." According to the results of the sixth monitoring of desertification and land desertification in Qinghai Province, the total area of desertification land in Hainan Prefecture is 542,47,3 mu, accounting for 8% of the total desertification land area of Qinghai Province and 3.<>% of the land area of Qinghai Province.

Since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", Hainan Prefecture has treated a total of 372.3 million mu of desertification land, accounting for 68.63% of the total desertification land area in Hainan. The goal of continuous "double reduction" of desertification land area and desertification degree, and "double increase" of forest coverage and grassland vegetation coverage have been achieved.
