Complaints of sexual crimes rose 13.2% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2022 and computer scams soared again, with an increase of almost 21%, according to the crime balance made public this Friday by the Ministry of the Interior.

The balance reflects that in the first six months of the year there have been 1,190,319 criminal offenses, 5.8% more than in the same period of 2022, which, according to Interior, reflects "a change in the upward trend", given that the growth of the previous quarter was higher. Homicides and murders increased by 11% (177) and attempted murders by 16.8%. Although it is a rare crime, the balance sheet highlights the 65 kidnappings reported in the first half of the year, 71% more than the previous year. Cybercrimes already account for 16.4% of crime

Of the 1,190,319 registered crimes, 81% (972,640) correspond to conventional crime offenses, which have grown by 2022.3% compared to the first half of 1. Meanwhile, cybercrime, with 217,679 criminal offenses, registered an increase of 19.7 percent. In this type of crime, the increase of 20.9% in complaints of computer scams stands out, which also represents 89.9% of all cybercrime.

In 2022, 335,995 crimes were reported for virtual scams compared to 70,178 registered in 2016, which shows that in just six years scams have grown more than 370%. 2,307 rape complaints, 11% more than in 2022

Regarding the facts denounced against sexual freedom, the balance made public this Friday by the Ministry of the Interior, the security forces and bodies registered between January and June 9,560 complaints, of which 2,307 were for rape, 11% more than the sexual assaults with penetration reported in the first half of last year.

Interior explains that this rise must be contextualized in the parallel increase in active awareness policies and reduction of social and personal tolerance against sexual violence, which translates, he explains, into a greater willingness of victims to report. Slight drop in burglaries

In addition, drug trafficking crimes rise by 12% - from 9,464 events registered in the first half of 2022 to 10,598 in this half of 2023, a growth that Interior attributes to the fight of the Security Forces and Bodies within the framework of specific plans such as the one launched years ago in the Campo de Gibraltar.

Meanwhile, crimes against property, such as robberies, thefts and theft of vehicles) increased as a whole and 10.9% and represent almost half of all conventional crime.

Compared to these increases, burglaries at home have decreased slightly by 1.6%. From 40,341 cases in 2023 to 41,004 in 2022. Crime rises more in the Valencian Community, Murcia and the Canary Islands. Crime grew in all the autonomous communities except for Galicia and Cantabria, with decreases of 6.8% and 1.3%, respectively, in addition to Ceuta, with a decrease of 6.2% and Melilla, with 1.3%.

Faced with these falls, the increases in crime have been greater this semester in the Valencian Community (10.7%), Murcia (9.9%), Canary Islands (9.6%), Andalusia (9.3%) and Catalonia (8%)
