Russia's TASS news agency quoted the Kremlin as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks on Thursday with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit in the Russian capital Moscow.

The media reported that the Russian ambassador to Uganda and South Sudan, Vladlen Semivolos, supported the lifting of the arms embargo on South Sudan, noting that the embargo is using a punitive tool, and unfairly.

The two presidents are expected to discuss relations between the two countries and the Sudanese crisis.

The head of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, visited South Sudan earlier this month and discussed with President Salva Kiir, in his second foreign visit after the start of fighting in his country.

The Sudanese crisis

South Sudan's Minister of Government Affairs Martin Elia Lomuro said that "it is known that President Salva Kiir is the only person who has knowledge about Sudan and can find a solution to the Sudanese crisis."

Sudan's Foreign Minister-designate Ali al-Sadiq also believed that South Sudan is the most suitable country to mediate the Sudanese crisis.

Russia is accused of siding with the RSF and its commander, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti), through the military support provided by the Wagner Group to those forces.
