On the afternoon of September 9, President Xi Jinping met with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Mishal who came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the 22th Asian Games at the West Lake State Guesthouse in Hangzhou.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the traditional friendship between China and Kuwait is deep. Kuwait is the first Gulf Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and the first Middle Eastern country to sign cooperation documents with China on the "Belt and Road" initiative. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 52 years ago, especially since the establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries five years ago, China-Kuwait relations have made great progress and achieved rich results in cooperation in various fields. China is willing to work with Kuwait to promote greater development of China-Kuwait relations.
Xi Jinping stressed that China supports Kuwait in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is willing to work with Kuwait to safeguard the "golden rule" of non-interference in internal affairs, which is for developing countries to live and die. China appreciates Kuwait's active participation in cooperation in jointly building the "Belt and Road", supports Kuwait's implementation of the "2035 National Vision", and is willing to deepen the docking of development strategies with Kuwait, strengthen cooperation in investment, energy, infrastructure, environmental governance, digital economy and other fields, deepen law enforcement security and counter-terrorism cooperation, and close people-to-people exchanges. It is hoped that Kuwait will continue to support China's rural revitalization strategy and continue to provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory market environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in Kuwait. China is willing to work with Kuwait to implement the outcomes of the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit, continuously improve the level of collective cooperation between China, Arab States and China and the Sea, enhance communication and cooperation on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
Mishale said that he congratulated the friendly Chinese people on the upcoming 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Government and people of Kuwait are deeply proud of Kuwait-China relations and deeply satisfied with the fruitful results achieved in cooperation between the two countries. The Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping are of great significance based on the lofty goals and purposes of promoting the peace and progress of mankind, and Kuwait firmly supports and actively participates. The Kuwaiti side highly appreciates China's support for Kuwait in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity, will continue to firmly pursue the one-China policy, firmly support China's position on the issue of core interests, and work with China to support the people of all countries in independently choosing a development path that suits their national conditions and has national characteristics. Kuwait is willing to deepen practical cooperation in various fields with China and close communication and cooperation in the Middle East Gulf region.
After the meeting, the leaders of the two countries witnessed the signing of the Joint Statement on the Five-Year Plan for Bilateral Cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the State of Kuwait (2024-2028) and a number of bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of renewable energy, infrastructure construction and environmental governance.
