Fastighetsägarna wants to see a twelve percent rent increase for tenants who rent from private companies in Karlstad. This is the offer that has been put forward ahead of the autumn negotiations.

– We had hoped that the property owners would take greater responsibility, says Emelie Lindström, negotiation leader at the Tenants' Association.

Jesper Åström and his family have a four at Herrhagen for which they pay just over SEK 10,000 a month. The property owners' demands mean just over SEK 1,200 in rent increases for them.

"That's ten percent too much.

He says a sharp rent increase would mean they would be forced to cut back on food on weekends.

Björn Westman, who also lives in the area, says that he is looking for extra jobs in addition to the full-time employment he has. A twelve percent rent increase would mean almost SEK 1,200 more in monthly rent.

The negotiations concerning tenants renting from private rental companies in Karlstad concern 4,168 apartments.

Hard to get along

There are many indications that it will be difficult for the parties to reach an agreement. Negotiations on rents in the county's other municipalities will start later.
