Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2023 - 202404h55, September 21, 2023

Qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, the Blues have not convinced and they continue the competition in general indifference... The challenge ahead of them is daunting: they are preparing to meet the All Blacks in Cardiff. This match marks a turning point for the French players: "the state of mind is to give everything, to leave everything on the field," recalls Fabien Pelous. After three World Cups, and 118 selections in the France team, the most capped player in the history of Les Bleus begins the last games of his career. For the occasion, he will break with his little traditions and other superstitions by singing the Marseillaise on the field for the first time.

In the stadium filled with its 72,000 supporters, the atmosphere is electric. The New Zealand "Haka" resonates and the French respond. The beginning of the match is brutal, putting forward, Serge Betsen, K.O. after five minutes of play. The New Zealanders had a clear technical superiority, but during the second half, the scenario of the match changed. The score tightens, the French equalize and go ahead. At the cost of physical damage, the XV of France won its place for the semi-final of this World Cup 2007. But his journey does not stop there, it is now necessary to heal the wounds and prepare to face England, the best enemies of the Blues. Fabien Pelous talks about this competition and his "exceptional experience in terms of emotions" in "Les Géants du rugby", an original podcast produced by Europe 1 Studio.
