It was at the end of December 2012 that the account "Gbg:s orroz" was started on Instagram. Orroz is slang and means whores or sluts. In the days after the account was started, the names and pictures of hundreds of young people were published along with offensive and gross information. All information was submitted by young people around Gothenburg to the anonymous account.

Riots outside the school

Already the day after the account was started, it had gained several thousand followers. Anger over the hangings grew and there was a rumor that it was Merima Brkovic and another peer who had started it. On Tuesday, something happened that few expected: Merima's school was stormed by hundreds of angry young people – in search of her.

The event came to be called the Instagram riot in the media and became a story that stretched over a long time ahead. Merima Brkovic was cleared of all suspicions when, after a few weeks, the police were able to trace the IP addresses linked to the account.

But she is still affected by history today, more than ten years later.
