Highlights: Swine fever is a contagious viral disease that affects wild boar and pigs. The virus can be found on shoes and clothes or in products that are passed on. If the virus is detected in a domestic pig herd, the entire group needs to be killed. No cases of swine fever have yet been found in the Stockholm area, but to protect its pigs, the park has put up newly printed signs at all pig enclosures stating that you are not allowed to feed the pigs. People can pass on the infection even if they cannot become infected themselves.

In order to prevent African swine fever from spreading and affecting the park's pigs, Skansen is now imposing a ban on feeding their animals and is carefully controlling the animals. – It is never allowed to feed our pigs, but now it is of course even more important that it is followed, says Johan Deander, group manager at Lill-Skansen.
