The pig population at Skansen consists of linderöd pigs, mini pigs and wild boars, all of which could become infected with the deadly virus.

No cases of swine fever have yet been found in the Stockholm area, but to protect its pigs, the park has put up newly printed signs at all pig enclosures stating that you are not allowed to feed the pigs.

The infection cannot make people sick

People can pass on the infection even if they cannot become infected themselves. The virus can be found on shoes and clothes or in products that are passed on.

It is a deadly and contagious viral disease that has reached Sweden for the first time and that affects wild boar and pigs. If the virus is detected in a domestic pig herd, the entire group needs to be killed.
