PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Bildu, PNV and BNG have registered a proposal to reform the Rules of Procedure of the Congress by virtue of which deputies will have the right to use in all areas of parliamentary activity, including oral interventions and the presentation of writings, any of the languages that have official status in any Autonomous Community.

The proposal that modifies several articles of the Rules of Procedure of the Chamber will be processed directly and in single reading so that it can be approved and enter into force immediately. The forecast is that the Bureau of the Congress will qualify it at its meeting next week and that it can be debated in the Plenary of the following week, between September 19 and 23.

The intention of the Presidency of the Congress is to have from the investiture session of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on September 26 and 27, the translation and interpretation services that are necessary so that the interventions of the deputies can be carried out if they wish in Basque, Galician or Catalan.

However, the reform provides for a period of six months in order to have the technical means necessary for the pleadings to be processed in these languages. In the meantime, Members who wish to submit their written submissions in a language other than Spanish must be accompanied by a translation.

The change will also affect the Journal of Sessions in which all the interventions and agreements of the plenary sessions, the Permanent Deputation and the Commissions will be reproduced in full, both in the language in which they have been pronounced and in Spanish.

The proposal also anticipates that in the shortest possible time, the text of the Rules of Procedure of the Congress will be adapted to the gender-inclusive language.
