United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says conditions for Rohingya Muslims remain dire, as they face widespread and systematic discrimination in all aspects of life, six years after the massacres of members of this minority by the Myanmar military.

In his periodic report to the Security Council, Guterres stressed the need to hold the perpetrators of crimes in Myanmar accountable and to bring justice to the victims.

Impunity continued, while violations continued.

The UN secretary-general urged Myanmar's neighbours to keep borders open and provide protection and assistance to refugees.

According to the UN report, the number of internally displaced people in Myanmar reached one million nine hundred thousand people as of last August.

The report noted that 630,<> Rohingya in Rakhine Region suffer systematic discrimination, marginalization, extortion and widespread abuse.

One million Rohingya refugees are in Bangladesh, and most of them want to return to Myanmar.
