This decision was made after the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, was placed under house arrest.

"Taking into account these events, on August 2, 2023, the State Department ordered the departure of non-essential US government personnel and eligible family members from the embassy in Niamey," RIA Novosti reports.

It is also reported that the diplomatic mission suspends the provision of "planned services".

Earlier it was reported that the first evacuation flight from Niger, organized by the French authorities, landed in Paris.

The German government also advised its citizens to leave Niger. They were invited to use French planes, on which French citizens will be exported.
