Nichols was on vacation when the complaint was made, and the Special Prosecutor's Office has kept the complaint waiting for him to come back.

But now Per Nichols is back and has made a decision – and there will be no new preliminary investigation.

Found dead after press conference

Mats Löfving was found dead in his home in the evening after the police's special investigator Runar Viksten presented his investigation into the so-called police leadership tangle, in which Löfving was accused of having been biased in several cases and was also questioned for his leadership.

Viksten's press conference has met with harsh criticism, as has the fact that the police leadership allowed Viksten to present sensitive information in such a context.

The police leadership has also been harshly criticized by, among others, Mats Löfving's former colleague Anne Asp.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority is investigating the matter and has found several shortcomings in connection with the death. The police have until the end of August to respond to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's criticism.

Critique: management darkens

The police's chief safety representative has also submitted two submissions of his own to the Swedish Work Environment Authority, as it is believed that the authority management has not told the whole truth about the course of events.

At the end of June, DN and SVT could reveal that there are reports that the highest police leadership received information that Mats Löfving was suicidal. National Police Chief Anders Thornberg denied that he had received any such information, but at the same time announced that a report had been made to the Special Investigations Department.
