"Any military intervention against Niger will lead to the withdrawal of Mali and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS, as well as to the adoption of self-defense measures in support of the armed forces and people of Niger," the statement said, quoted by Faso7.

The authorities also warned that any military intervention against Niger would be tantamount to a declaration of war on Burkina Faso and Mali.

On 28 July, General Abdurahmane Chiani appeared on national television in Niger and declared himself President of the National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland.

On July 30, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) granted a week for the president to be returned to power in Niger, then it can apply all available measures, including military ones.
