G20 = Energy Ministers' Meeting of 20 major countries will be held in India on the 22nd. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the focus has been on what kind of message can be put forth to respond to the stable supply of energy, which has been subject to persistent uncertainty, and to realize a decarbonized society.

The G20 Energy Ministers' Meeting will be held in the southern Indian state of Goa, with METI Minister Nishimura attending from the Japan.

As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues for a long time and concerns about the stable supply of energy persist, the conference is expected to discuss diversification of supply chains = supply networks, expansion of the introduction of renewable energy, and support measures for developing countries to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

The Japan is expected to express its stance of supporting each country by introducing thermal power generation that uses hydrogen and ammonia to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, stating that it should aim for both energy security and decarbonization while taking into account the circumstances of each country, bearing in mind the emerging and developing countries known as the "Global South."

At the G20, in which Russia and China also participate, the focus is on what kind of message can be put forth as a joint statement cannot be adopted at ministerial meetings due to the confrontation between Europe and Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.

Prior to the meeting, Minister Nishimura told reporters, "I would like to aim for decarbonization on a global scale while supporting various initiatives by emerging countries."
