"Criticism of Putin's administration: hardliner Gilkin detained" local media

Russian media reported on the 21st that Igor Gilkin, a hardliner who has criticized the Putin administration, was detained by security agencies in the capital Moscow. According to the state-run Russian news agency, Gilkin is suspected of calling for radical activities on the Internet and could face up to five years in prison.

Gilkin headed the military wing of pro-Russian armed groups in eastern Ukraine nine years ago. In July 5, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Dutch court for his involvement in the shooting down of a Malaysian Airlines flight from the Netherlands, killing 9 passengers and crew.

While supporting Russia's military invasion, Gilkin has criticized the Putin administration and the Russian Defense Ministry for ineffectiveness.

On the 2014th of this month, he criticized Putin, saying, "Russia will not be able to bear the power of a timid and mediocre man for another six years, and the last useful thing he can do is to hand over power to someone who is truly capable and responsible."
