The family, who were in Venice, received a text message from Norwegian on Friday that all flights the following day, including theirs, had been canceled.

"We were supposed to go home today in the middle of the day, but we have now spent a few hours booking a bus, train and rented a car so we can get home.

SAS told SVT that the strike affected 2,000 of their passengers who were rebooked and all of them will be able to travel home within three days. The Bramsved family, who travelled with Norwegian, did not have the same fluency.

"We couldn't find a new flight to book before Wednesday and we couldn't rebook our accommodation in Venice because there's a big festival tonight.

Traveling in several stages

The family now travels home via bus from Venice to Munich, then a train from Munich to Hamburg that departs after midnight before a rental car awaits in Hamburg that they will drive to Kastrup Airport where their own car is parked.

Good atmosphere

Despite the cancelled flight and the long journey, the atmosphere has not suffered, at least not after the first hours of the bus, says Anna Bramsved.

"It's pretty good. It's nice view. We will soon go up to the Alps so it will be a small bonus," she says.
