"I believe that Forza Italia can never again have a president and that is why I propose to the National Council to replace the word president with the word national secretary in all the articles that provide for it. Because there is only one president, there are no others." After the very long applause, which lasted more than five minutes, the emotion, the message of the Berlusconi family of thanks read to directors and militants, and the video that covered the stages of the public action (not only political) of the founder of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, who died just over a month ago, the National Council of the party decided that the successor in the direction of Forza Italia will not have the position of president, but as national secretary. So it will be the national secretariat, and not the presidential committee, that will flank it.

Also unanimously approved was the other proposal, supported by Antonio Tajani, current foreign minister and vice president of the government, to officially recognize the role and name of Silvio Berlusconi in the party's statutes. This was followed by a show of hands, the document of the political programme that sets the course for the future and was illustrated by Andrea Orsini.

The work of the National Council concluded with the election of the secretary, a position for which the only candidate is Tajani. Paolo Barelli, group leader of Forza Italia in the Chamber of Deputies, proposed it with these words to the assembly: "Tajani agrees with the candidacy proposed by the presidential committee, let's move on to the vote on the election of the national secretary." The election was approved unanimously by a show of hands, immediately interrupted by another salvo of applause. Here is a new video in which Berlusconi talks about Tajani, who "has never made a wrong statement."

Tajani then presented his first report as secretary of the assembly. He touched on the points of the action that Forza Italia intends to carry out "always loyal to the government coalition but different". He claimed his position in the center and launched the slogans for the Europeans. It reaffirmed its commitment to justice reform.

Also included in the programmatic document was the proposal to dedicate to Berlusconi the project to build the bridge over the Strait of Messina, which will link the peninsula with Sicily, approved by the Government of Giorgia Meloni, since it was one of the president's dreams.

"I thank him for his leadership," said European People's Party President Manfred Weber, who took part in the meeting to address Tajani: "Forza Italia is the center-right in Italy. Forza Italia is the EPP in Italy. I am confident in the future because I know Forza Italia, its people and its motivation." Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of Environment and Energy Security, was also satisfied with the result: "With his experience, his consistency and the loyalty he has always shown, I am sure that Tajani will allow our party to win all challenges, demonstrating that he knows how to conquer the political space that we deserve and that no one can ever question."

The Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, also made a positive comment: "Forza Italia has been programmed to move forward. Tajani has always been Silvio Berlusconi's closest person, the most authoritative, the highest-ranking one, the one who has always firmly managed European files in an extraordinarily effective way."

Meanwhile, Forza Italia will not be the new home of M5S MEP Fabio Massimo Castaldo, who denied the latest rumors of an imminent landing in the Forza Italia party: "I have discovered, from a press article, that I have become an MEP for Forza Italia. This news is false," the Pentasternist MEP wrote on social media. I am responsible for Foreign and European Affairs of the M5S and, despite the bitterness and disappointment on several issues, my desire is to continue working to carry out our battles," concluded Castaldo.
