The competition is arranged for four days. The first two races are in Abisko and the last two just outside Bjerkvik in Norway.

Around 550 competitors are registered for the first stage, which takes place on Tuesday evening.

"They get to run in the midnight sun," explains race director Mats Luspa, IFK Kiruna.

Competitors travel long distances

Many Nordic clubs have a tradition of participating in the race – but there are also competitors who travel long distances to participate.

"There are busloads coming from Switzerland and Germany. There is also a family from Australia.

The orienteers can participate in different levels of competition, ranging from beginner class to elite class.

– There are also a couple of good Swedish elite runners in the men's class who will hold their own well. In the women's category, we also have some Finnish elite runners in addition to Norwegian runners with national team qualifications.

"Really nice weather"

And they seem to be lucky with the weather.

"It looks like the weather is going to be really nice. According to SMHI's forecast, it will be 16-17 degrees and a little windy. Maybe it's good that it's windy, maybe the mosquitoes blow away," says Mats Luspa.

This is the first time that the competition is a Swedish-Norwegian event. IFK Kiruna arranges the competitions together with Norwegian Bjerkvik IF.
