"One boy landed on the mainland, so to speak, the other ended up on a small island in the furrow," says Thomas Åslin, officer on duty at the Midnorrland Rescue Region.

While the emergency services were on their way, they were told that no one was in the water anymore, but that a boy was stuck on an island.

"We made sure he got to land safely. An ambulance was also alerted and checked on them.

"Could have gone much worse"

"It could have gone much worse, of course," says Thomas Åslin.

After the incident, the emergency services have been in contact with the dam company and talked about what can be done to prevent similar incidents. There are signs in the area, but no sound signals warning when water is let on.

"The floodgates can be opened several times a day to adjust the level," explains Åslin.

This would make too many noises and would not have a good warning effect.

"They are continuing to work on how to inform and prevent.
