The exact details of the package are not yet known. But according to information to SVT News, it will be possible for the EU to ban "the export of high-tech goods to third countries and restrictions against certain companies based in third countries."

Another 100 individuals and actors will be added to the sanctions lists. These include people involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children, political leaders and companies involved in or behind the military industry.

The broadcasting ban on media that spread propaganda and false information about the war will also apply to companies.

Several countries may be affected

SVT's European correspondent David Boati says that it is a long-awaited agreement:

"This package took a long time to agree on, it is a new level to start targeting sanctions also against third countries, ie countries outside the EU in addition to Russia, that help to circumvent the sanctions."

The European Commission has been able to show figures on how countries close to Russia have suddenly increased some trade enormously since the EU began to introduce its sanctions packages. Therefore, the EU is sharpening its tone against countries that help Russia by acting as intermediaries or reselling material that the EU has banned for export or import.

On Twitter, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) writes that an "important agreement has been reached today during the Swedish presidency on an eleventh sanctions package against Russia".

The sanctions are expected to be fully adopted on Friday via a written procedure, according to TT.
