"In the near future, we will carry out all the necessary organizational work on the formation of operational units to promote defense and security," he said in a video message on his Telegram channel.
Vedernikov added that such units will operate in all municipalities. Their area of responsibility will include assistance to law enforcement agencies in case of possible emergencies in the region.
"We are talking about extinguishing fires, eliminating the consequences of emergencies, helping to patrol important facilities," the governor said.
On May 30, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, met with the regiment commander and commanders of self-defense battalions, they discussed proposals for equipping them and continuing combat rallying.
Gladkov also said that he was proud of every fighter of the regional self-defense.
According to him, these people are evacuating the wounded under shelling and helping the elderly and children, risking their lives.
