Morocco announced on Friday that it received 5.1 million tourists in the first 5 months of 2023, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2019, according to a statement by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism.

The number of tourists who visited Morocco in May reached one million, an increase of 55%, compared to the same month in 2019, the ministry said.

The statement pointed out that 2019 is the reference year for the tourism sector, given that the Corona pandemic has affected that sector during the past few years, as international tourism has declined to the point of a complete halt in most countries, as part of measures to limit the spread of the pandemic.

On January 31, the Moroccan government said that 11 million tourists visited the country during the whole of 2022.

Morocco says its plan to revive the tourism sector expects 26 million tourists a year until 2030.

Tourism has been one of the areas most affected in the country by the Corona pandemic, as the government has provided financial support more than once to workers in this sector.
