PAI – Terra Ranka, a coalition led by the PAIGC party, won an absolute majority in the National Assembly: 54 seats, far ahead of Madem, the party of the President of the Republic which won 29 seats.

According to the Constitution, the party that wins the majority in Parliament automatically obtains the post of Prime Minister of the country.

Concretely, Guinea-Bissau should experience cohabitation with a Prime Minister from the ranks of the PAIGC.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló is to express himself in a message to the Nation.

For his part, the PAIGC spokesperson encourages the entire political class to let work for this 4-year mandate and therefore to put an end to these repeated cycles of crisis at the head of the institutions of this West African State.

Meanwhile, activists began to celebrate the victory: they came out spontaneously in the city center of the capital, with flags and pots and pans to express their joy.
