In mid-May, Morocco unveiled its first homemade car called "Neo", to enter the ranks of the countries producing cars, after years of experience in assembly and assembly, and attracting investments to international companies.

Morocco is a pioneer in the assembly and assembly of cars and the manufacture of some of their parts, as the Kingdom produces 700,90 cars annually, <>% of which are exported, mostly to Europe.

The Kingdom has 10 industrial systems related to the automotive industry, related to electrical wires, batteries, seats, car tires and engines. The Kingdom is trying to achieve an integrated system that enables it to manufacture a 100% local car, which was announced last month.

The first homemade car

In the middle of last month, Morocco's King Mohammed VI presided over the presentation ceremony of the new car's prototype in Rabat, and the car was produced by New Motors, a company with Moroccan capital.

New Motors has established an industrial zone in Ain Odeh (near the capital Rabat) to manufacture vehicles destined for the local market and for export. The annual production capacity is expected to reach 27,65 cars, with a local integration rate of <>%.


Hydrogen Car

On the same day, the Kingdom of Morocco announced the prototype of a hydrogen-powered vehicle developed by a Moroccan citizen, called "NAMEX". The car was developed by NamX, which called it the HUV Hydrogen Utility Vehicle.

Designed in partnership with the Italian design bureau Pininfarina, the interior design of the vehicle was carried out by Moroccan talent.

Electric Vehicles

In June 2020, the French company Citroën announced the manufacture of the first electric car at its factory in the northern Moroccan city of Kenitra. On December 21 of the same year, Morocco unveiled a locally produced electric vehicle charging station model, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that "the charging station is the fruit of a research project developed at the request of automotive industry manufacturers."

In September 2021, the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the start of manufacturing Renault's first electric car at the Tangier plant in the north of the country.


A mecca for attracting European investment

Morocco has become an important destination for European and Asian automotive companies by setting up vehicle manufacturing and assembly points in a promising market that has witnessed rapid development since the beginning of the new millennium.

In May 2021, the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that the Kingdom ranks third globally in terms of competitiveness in the automotive industry, after India and China.

The ministry added in a report that the country is working to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector, get closer to China, and reach India's level of competitiveness. Morocco has 251 automotive factories employing more than 160,<> people.

Industry Minister Riad Mezour explained in September 2022 that the Kingdom is exporting car parts to about 70 global destinations, considering this a "success" achieved by the Moroccan Renault Group. He stressed the need to keep Morocco among the "most competitive" countries in the automotive industry.

Mazour stressed the group's ability to carry out good projects, indicating that it has proven its position globally 10 years after the establishment of the "Renault" plant.

He pointed out that Morocco tops the list of countries exporting automotive products to Europe, from outside the European Union, competing with major countries.
