"We thought there would be far fewer dead birds on the island. We send all birds to the National Veterinary Institute, SVA, where some birds are tested. Many of the birds are destroyed immediately, says Martin Grundqvist, game warden in Solna municipality to SVT Nyheter Stockholm.

Also in Lötsjön in Sundbyberg, about 20 laughing gulls and herring gulls have been found dead, according to game warden Martin Grundqvist.

Even a fox has died

About two weeks ago, a fox cub was also found that turned out to have bird flu, probably infected after feeding on infected, dead birds. Dog owners are advised not to let dogs move unleashed next to these lakes.

SVT has applied to the National Veterinary Institute, SVA. Erik Ågren, veterinarian at SVA, said in an interview earlier:
"The virus settles on the brain and the bird suffers from meningitis. The bird becomes wobbly and behaves strangely before dying.
