The world embarked in 2015 on a great global challenge that, under the umbrella of the 2030 Agenda, then set the guidelines to be followed to guarantee a sustainable development of the population and the planet. The big summary is that the future needs activists, citizens, politicians, entities and companies to come together to face social, economic and environmental challenges urgently.

And in this sense, the debate is necessary, precisely, to exchange opinions, initiatives and programs that, since then, are giving results. That is why Madrid is ready to host, on June 22, a major international event. The We Choose Earth Tour conference, organized by EDP, seeks to create more than necessary reflections on the energy transition, the role of new technologies in the design of a better world and how to make it truly sustainable. That is, the capital will welcome new ideas on how to drive a better tomorrow for the generations to come.

Sustainability experts

And it will do so by giving voice to great connoisseurs of these fields and with different international trajectories to promote discussion on issues that have a real impact on people's daily lives. Thus, references such as Lubomila Jordanova, co-founder and CEO of Plan A, a software provider that through machine learning and science allows companies to reduce their emissions; Peter Frankopan, one of the most renowned experts on sustainable cities; or Céline Costeau, environmental activist and filmmaker, will be the protagonists of the various scheduled talks.

At his side, among other experts, the international lawyer and UN advisor, Amal Clooney will remember in her conference that the future cannot be protected without the power of people. She will discuss justice and social action, a field she protects from the entity she chairs, the Clooney Foundation for Justice. Linked to this more humanistic concept, and that affects all families and people, the psychologist and one of the ten most influential management thinkers in the world, Adam Grant, will focus his lecture on the need as individuals to rethink current assumptions and motivations. For him, the urgency is to learn to live more generous and creative lives.

Lead by example

EPD, the world's leading energy company in renewable energies, not only organizes this unmissable event, which can also be followed via streaming from anywhere, but is also an active part of the change it promotes, seeking to make a difference for the environment and for people.

The company's challenges stand out for having a common denominator, that of playing an active role in the decarbonization of the economy and in promoting the collective effort necessary to drive the change that the planet yearns for.

With this work philosophy, EPD has updated its strategy for 2023-2026 establishing ambitious plans with new investments of 25,000 million euros dedicated to the energy transition, for example. Currently, more than 75% of the company's production already comes from renewable sources, but it still wants to have a greater and better impact on society.

In Spain, EDP leads the green hydrogen map, which can accelerate Europe's energy independence and sustainability. As a sign of commitment to innovation and decarbonisation, three EDP projects in this area have been declared Important Projects of Common European Interest. But human projects are also needed to drive global challenges. An example: since 2019, the sponsorship of the EDP Gran Vía Theater is transforming the emotions of the people who attend the performances into electricity that is donated to charitable causes.

Finally, returning to the appointment of June 22: all profits from ticket sales to attend the We Choose Earth Tour will go to non-profit organizations that focus their fight on the energy transition and social and environmental impact such as Ecomar, Ecodes and La España Azul.
