Pakistan's Insaf Party, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is facing a wave of resignations in the early ranks following the violence that followed Imran Khan's arrest on May 9.

In the latest developments related to these resignations, the party's first vice president and former information minister Fouad Chaudhry announced on Wednesday his resignation from the Insaf Party and his departure from political work.

Chaudhry said in a tweet, "I am parting ways with Imran Khan and stepping down from my party position."

Shortly before that, party leader and deputy speaker of parliament Qasim Khan Suri also announced his resignation from the party over the May 9 events.

A Syrian deputy speaker of parliament who stopped the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan in April last year before the Supreme Court intervened and forced parliament to vote.

A day earlier, the party's leader and former Minister of Women's Affairs, Shirin Mazari, announced her resignation from the party and to stay away from political work and devote herself to her family and social work, and her resignation came after her arrest 4 consecutive times since the events of the ninth of May.

The party has also seen a number of other resignations among its leaders, most of whom held prominent positions in the state during Imran Khan's government, such as former Punjab Minister of Culture and Information Fayaz Hassan Chauhan, Karachi Insaf Party chairman and former member of Pakistan's parliament Aftab Siddiqui, and former member of parliament Osman Khan Trakai.

These resignations coincide with the presence of a number of other leaders of the Insaf Party under the "Maintenance of Public Order Law", and the most prominent of those arrested so far is former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was re-arrested in front of the prison on Tuesday evening, and has confirmed that he will remain in the party and will not resign.

On the other hand, the Pakistani government announced – through Defense Minister Asif Khawaja – that the government is considering the possibility of banning the Insaf Party due to the violence that took place in the country on the ninth of May.
