Police have reopened the search for British girl Madeleine McCann who disappeared while on holiday with her parents in Portugal in 2007.

During the day, a major search operation with police officers from Portugal, Germany and the United Kingdom has been underway at the Arade dam in southern Portugal. They are looking for evidence that could link a suspected German man to Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

During the day, the police have gone into the water and have been seen picking up a number of bags with unknown contents from there, writes Sky News.

Have received credible tips

The reason why the police are searching this remote pond is because they have received a credible tip.

"We have reason to believe that we can find evidence there," German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told German broadcaster NRD.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, the operation is likely linked to photographs of the Arade dam found in the home of the suspected German 45-year-old, Reuters writes.

Searching for pink pajamas

Police are not necessarily searching for Madeleine McCann herself, who is believed to be dead. The effort is rather about finding clothes and pieces of fabric that can be linked to her disappearance.

The main focus is the pink pajamas she was wearing when she disappeared, according to information provided to the Daily Mail.

German man suspect

A 45-year-old German man is the prime suspect in McCann's disappearance. He was reportedly in the area at the time McCann disappeared, and is currently in prison in Germany for raping a woman in the Algarve in southern Portugal.
