Doha – Under the patronage of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the third edition of the Qatar Economic Forum will kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, in cooperation with Bloomberg Media, in the presence of more than 32 official delegations from countries around the world and two thousand participants from inside and outside Qatar, and will continue until May 25, 2023.

This year's edition, titled A New Story of Global Growth, highlights the latest trends in finance, energy, healthcare and technology and their role in driving future growth through a series of interviews, panel discussions and interactive workshops, during which experts and emerging voices from around the world will exchange ideas and perspectives to identify the latest economic trends.

The forum provides a diagnosis of the reality of the global economy and seeks to foresee its future, by focusing on global challenges that affect societies and economies around the world, as the forum is scheduled to participate in the work of a group of influential business leaders, academics and heads of government, to highlight the innovations necessary to drive the global economy forward.

The forum seeks to cover all corners of the economy, whether in terms of trade and linking it to energy, investment, modern technology or the general mood of consumers, as well as geopolitical turmoil and its complex effects.

The forum will witness 9 sessions on topics including:

  • Energy transmission and security.
  • Develop emerging technology to maximize innovation.

  • The impact of the global market on health innovation.
  • Climate finance and overcoming barriers to green growth.

A global platform for dialogue

During a press conference held yesterday in Doha, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani, Executive Director of Media City and Chairman of the Executive Organizing Committee of the Forum, confirmed the completion of logistical preparations for the launch of the forum, "which has witnessed great development and has become a global platform for dialogue to discuss the most prominent economic issues."

He explained that the third edition witnesses the discussion of important topics, most notably inflation, investment in emerging markets, energy transition, trade and sports, and economic interdependence in the Gulf, pointing to a number of factors that contributed to the development of the forum significantly, the most important of which is the diversity and importance of topics, and the increase in demand to attend the forum, and noted that the most important feature of the forum is the wide participation of the public and private sectors from all countries of the world.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Forum added that the main objective of the Forum is to create a platform for dialogue between the West and Asia, as well as to hold private and public discussions during the work of the Forum, explaining that after the success of the State of Qatar in organizing the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Forum will focus in one of its aspects on the post-World Cup phase, especially the commercial aspect of sports, where athletes between joint stock sports companies, owners of international clubs and former players will participate in various games, not just football. The focus will be on the economic aspect of sport by dedicating two working sessions to this purpose.

Conference Visa

For his part, Mubarak Al-Kuwari, Executive Director of the Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a member of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Qatar Economic Forum, pointed out the great development witnessed by the guests' experience to attend the Qatar Economic Forum, which includes all stages of their journey, as the experience of arrival of guests to the country began in cooperation with the Haya platform and the Ministry of Interior.

During the press conference, he pointed out that a special visa was issued for conferences in the State of Qatar, which contributed to facilitating the access experience for guests and providing all logistical services for each participant in the forum, through the Haya card for conferences.

Agreements and economic development

For his part, Nasser Al-Taweel, Vice Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Qatar Economic Forum and representative of the Ministry of Commerce and Economy, said that the forum will witness the presence of a large number of CEOs of major international companies, and a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding are scheduled to be signed, most of which are economic and commercial agreements between local authorities and international bodies.

The Qatari Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, pointed out in press statements that the world today has become more interconnected, so cooperation between countries and peoples is a key element in driving economic growth, reiterating his welcome to representatives of the business community from around the world in Doha to participate in the third edition of the forum, which is a vital platform for exchanging ideas and dialogue on the most important global issues.

Bloomberg Media CEO Scott Havens said that in just 3 years, the Qatar Economic Forum has become a unique and well-established platform to discuss the most important issues in business, as well as cover the far-reaching Gulf impact, and connect influential voices across diverse global industries and communities.
