In conjunction with the G7 Hiroshima Summit, a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, considered the father of India's independence, was installed in a riverbank green space in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, and an unveiling ceremony was held on the morning of the 20th.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the eastern riverbank green space in Otemachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, and was attended by about 120 people, including Mayor Matsui of Hiroshima City and Prime Minister Modi of India.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi pressed a button next to the statue and a bust of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled.

The bust, together with the pedestal, is about 2.2 meters high, and the Indian side offered to donate it, and the city of Hiroshima accepted Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence as consistent with the idea of promoting a culture of peace that Hiroshima City was aiming for.

However, since India is a nuclear-weapon state and does not participate in the NPT = Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the city of Hiroshima said to the Indian side, "In order to realize a world free of nuclear weapons, after touching the reality of the atomic bombing and listening to the voices of the atomic bomb survivors, In order to put a stop to the current situation where the risk of nuclear weapons is increasing, I would like the atomic bombed sites to send a message of determination with determination."

After the unveiling ceremony, Mayor Matsui said, "I hope that everyone will have a thorough discussion to achieve peace from a long-term perspective."
