The bicycle system procured by the City of Stockholm is called Stockholm eBikes and is managed by the company Citybikes. The agreement was signed back in 2021, but there have been constant problems since the start. Too few bicycles, battery fires and bicycles that have recently gone in two parts.

"This company has delivered a never-ending stream of problems. The bikes and stations have been too few, the batteries have not been charged properly and the app has not been reliable. These are just a few examples, says Lars Strömgren (MP), Mayor of the City of Stockholm, in a press release.

"Shown tremendous patience"

Earlier on Tuesday, DI reported that Citybike wanted to pause the entire agreement for up to nine months to solve the problem of the broken bikes.

"From the city's side, we have shown tremendous patience with this company. We have also done everything we can to help deal with the shortcomings that have come to light, within the limits allowed by the agreement. Now, unfortunately, we see no alternative but to cancel the agreement, says Lars Strömgren (MP), Mayor of the City of Stockholm.
