The official stressed that so far he cannot confirm the data on the defeat of the air defense system.

"You know, for example, with howitzers ... Many of them were damaged or only disabled as a result of hostilities. Some of them could be repaired [on site], some we helped to repair outside Ukraine," Kirby was quoted as saying by TASS.

If the Patriot system is damaged, requiring repair outside Ukraine, then the United States will help Kiev with this, he said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian military hit an American-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv with a high-precision strike of the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system.

CNN, citing a US official, said that Washington is assessing the degree of damage to the missile system in order to understand whether repairs are possible or whether the system needs to be decommissioned.
