Five hours before the deadline, the parties agreed on a new contract for rail traffic. The new two-year agreement involves a salary increase according to the label and a model for how employees should be compensated with leave for schedule changes that come close to the intended shifts.

– As it is now, it is open to interpretation, you can still make schedule changes. You should contact the employee, but if you can't get hold of it or you have to make changes, they have to do it anyway, says train driver Martin Morén, train driver at Mälartåg.

He believes that many will leave the railway with the new agreement.

"I would rather have gone on strike to really make sure we get a better deal now.

"Not enough"

Regarding working alone on commuter trains, it is agreed to work in a joint group to raise the issue with authorities and politicians. This is not enough, according to train driver Nils Westberg Ahlmark, who TT interviewed. That very question led to a wild strike, that is, unapproved strike by the union, among commuter train drivers in Stockholm.

"They should have gone on strike to defend our demands, and put pressure on Almega to get the best deal possible," says Nils Westberg Ahlmark.
