Reports of happiness ratings and cheating have led to a loss of confidence in the grading system. So says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics, in Aktuellt. High school grades have been distorted into a commodity, he says. Now the school is considering introducing entrance examinations to deal with the problem themselves.

"In the long run, you are building a society where you cannot rely on this incredibly important selection mechanism," says Lars Strannegård.

Mats Persson (L), Minister of Education, also describes it as a very serious situation.

"It's a warning bell for everyone. We risk getting a situation where young people get into education as an engineer or nurse and cannot acquire the education because they lack the right prior knowledge, he says and adds:

"We don't have a fair system today.

The government will now take a number of measures to address the problems, Persson continues. Among other things, legislative work will now begin on the basis that the grading should not deviate too much from the national tests.
