Maria, the 40-year-old woman who was stabbed in the neck allegedly by her partner at a home in Móstoles in the early hours of last Monday, died Thursday in the hospital where she was admitted in critical condition, according to sources from the 12 de Octubre hospital in Madrid. The victim was already in critical condition after having lost a lot of blood. The alleged aggressor, 52 years old and who was arrested after the attack, had no previous history or complaints. The attack occurred on the same day that the woman had met with a lawyer to initiate the separation proceedings.
The couple's 13-year-old son was the one who raised the alarm and, after witnessing the attack, went down the stairs of the block to alert the neighbors, who called 112 at 6.10 in the morning. The first to arrive was an agent of the Civil Guard who lived in the block and who found the man on the landing of the stairs armed with a knife. He fired an intimidating shot and got into the house.
Then the agents of the Municipal Police and the National Police arrived at the building, but the alleged aggressor, of Spanish nationality, refused to open the door for several minutes. At one point, the man has opened the door a little and the agents have managed to open it and enter the interior where the aggressor was next to the victim, who had lost a large amount of blood from a penetrating stab wound in the neck.
After arresting her partner, the agents rescued the woman, who had gone into cardiorespiratory arrest, so they began the resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival of the Medical Emergency Service (SUMMA 112). Once the victim's pulse was recovered, she was transferred in critical condition to the 12 de Octubre hospital in the capital, where she underwent emergency surgery.
A neighbor of the building confirmed that the victim's parents had moved to the same building from the municipality of Cenicientos because the couple had "marital problems" and wanted to help the victim with the care of her 13-year-old son.
If the macho nature of this crime is confirmed, the number of women killed by their partners or ex-partners in Spain would rise to 16 so far this year (the first fatality in the Community of Madrid), so the number of women murdered would amount to 1,200 since 2003, according to data from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
