Planning for the event began at the end of January and today, Wednesday, the local competition will be held in Christinasalen in Piteå.
The competitions will also be broadcast on Youtube with the help of students at Strömbackaskolan.
Unclear future
Music competition has been on hiatus during the pandemic years and starting up the machinery again has not been the easiest.
– If interest is rekindled, it will be better and easier to do next year, but if we fail, the chances of SMASK's survival are unfortunately not so great, says Anna Astar, project manager, also called SMASK-general.
However, the hope of the organizers is that the competitions will live on.
National final
SMASK is a music competition organized by Sweden's six music academies. This year, the School of Music in Piteå is responsible for the national event.
In Wednesday's local competition, five entries will be heard and two of them will advance to the national final, which will be held on Friday. Who it will be is decided by a jury on site and the audience's vote. In addition to Piteå, Malmö and Ingesund will participate.
Maria Andrejic Bengtsson will conduct the live band during both competitions.
"This is the ultimate pop song. And then there's at least one key increase in each song too – that's nice," she says.
