So far, very few moose have swum across the Ångermanälven river at Kullberg, the site of the SVT broadcast "The Great Moose Migration". The moose have taken other paths and the explanation is that it has been cold with a lot of ice along the river.

"It's a big ice edge that they shy away from," says Göran Ericsson.

Choosing dry furrow instead of swimming

Both north of Kullberg and a bit south of filming locations, the Ångermanälven river is dry and this year the moose have chosen to walk over dryshod instead of swimming in the cold water.

"They have done this all the years we have followed the moose migration, but this year a large proportion have used the dry furrows.

In the video, Göran Ericsson explains why the moose have not swum to the same extent as before.
