The New Ecological and Social People's Union (Nupes) celebrates its first anniversary this Sunday. Launched for the 2022 legislative elections, this left-wing alliance brings together MPs from La France insoumise, the PS, the PCF and Europe-Écologie Les Verts. "This alliance has raised a tremendous popular momentum," said Pierre Jouvet, secretary general of the PS.

It is an alliance that has turned the political landscape on the left upside down. La Nupes - for New Ecological and Social Popular Union - celebrates its first anniversary this Sunday. It was driven by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, shortly after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, for the legislative elections of 2022. "This alliance has first and foremost raised a tremendous popular momentum," said the secretary general of the Socialist Party, Pierre Jouvet, at the microphone of Europe 1. This alliance brings together the deputies of the PS, but also of La France insoumise, the PCF and Europe-Écologie Les Verts.

"One year after its creation, it has enabled 151 MPs to be elected. It has allowed a disunited left that has not spoken to each other for 25 years, to decide to continue, to walk together to change people's lives," continued the Secretary General in Europe 1 Midi Week-end.

The construction of a "hope" on the left

At the microphone of Jacques Serais, Pierre Jouvet says that the Nupes "gives a horizon and a perspective that leads us to an immense responsibility, that of not betraying and not disappointing the hope of millions of women and men who have only the left and ecologists to accompany them in their everyday lives". "This hope is what we must build and pursue," said the PS secretary-general.

Still at the microphone of Europe 1, Pierre Jouvet launches an appeal to the partners of this alliance: "We must build together this project for the French people, which will tell them that yes, voting for left-wing and ecologist candidates will also change their lives in their daily lives. That's what we have to do."
