Sudanese grassroots entities organized a demonstration in front of the residence of UN staff in the city of Port Sudan, northeastern Sudan.

The demonstrators demanded the expulsion of the head of the United Nations Transition Support Mission in Sudan (UNTM), Volker Peretz, from the country.

The demonstrators also went to the Sudanese army headquarters in Port Sudan to affirm their support and support for the army.

The demonstrators chanted slogans rejecting any negotiation with what they described as agents.

Two days ago, the streets of Port Sudan saw car rallies demanding Volker's expulsion.

Volker had moved his residence from Khartoum to Port Sudan to escape the 20-day fighting between Sudan's army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

This comes in parallel with renewed violent clashes in Khartoum on Thursday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which the Sudanese Foreign Ministry accused of storming the Indian embassy.

Eyewitnesses told Al Jazeera that the clashes in the vicinity of the presidential palace and the General Command in Khartoum are the most violent ever since fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15.

According to witnesses, the sounds of gunfire and loud explosions were concentrated in central Khartoum as plumes of smoke rose.

Heavy and medium weapons were used in the renewed battles, and army aviation launched heavy raids on targets north of Khartoum North and Omdurman, which were repelled by the anti-aircraft of the Rapid Support Forces.
