Building on the success of the film "The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan" released in early April at the cinema, the eponymous book by Alexandre Dumas is also a hit: sales have more than doubled in one month. In a Parisian bookstore where Europe 1 went, delighted spectators are looking for the original work.

Three million admissions since its release: no doubt, the swashbuckling film with a five-star cast The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan, adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, is a hit in French cinemas. A success that is reflected in the sales of the book: they have been multiplied by 2.5 in nearly a month. In Paris, spectators conquered by the adventure snatch up the famous novel.

"There, you have a version that corresponds to the film called D'Artagnan. You're going to enjoy yourself," says a bookseller, Sandrine, to a customer obviously interested in the world of Alexandre Dumas. She guides her in front of the shelf of the great classics, points to the letter D to find the name of the author and the famous book.

"Childhood memories"

A work that represents many memories for Antonia. "I had read the book at the time, I must have been 11-12 years old," she recalls. This week, the latter saw the adaptation of the book with her children in the dark rooms. "I really like Eva Green (who plays the role of Milady, editor's note), Pio Marmaï (Porthos, editor's note) who we see in rather comical roles usually," she told Europe 1.

This mother was therefore motivated to return to the store and overcome the fear of the big book. "Watching the film again makes me think of that classic. It can actually give me the idea to encourage my children to read it again, buy it back or offer them reading," admits Antonia. Like her, other delighted spectators walk through the door of Sandrine's bookstore. "It brings back childhood memories, and it's part of a common foundation," says the bookseller, who advances a two- or three-fold increase in sales of the novel in her shop.

"It's still significant, on the scale of my small bookstore," she says, "and if you count on the whole France, you feel the effect." Mangas, humorous comics around the heroes of Alexandre Dumas... Unpublished works are now available on the shelves.
