Financial culture is a fundamental tool for people and households to properly manage their resources and, in this way, for their well-being. In personal finance education, the focus is the new chapter of 'Nosotros', the CaixaBank program in which we all fit.

On this occasion, the 100 people who participate in 'Us' answer questions about their knowledge in personal and family finance. 77 out of 100 say they have talked about the value of money with their children However, only 20 out of 100 have started preparing for retirement. "Time passes very quickly, the sooner we start the better," acknowledges one of the participants.

Financial education begins at home, although theory is one thing and practice is another. According to a study by Funcas, although 97% of mothers and fathers surveyed attribute to the family the main responsibility in the financial education of their children, 45% never talk to them about the income they enter each month and 47% do not talk about the taxes they pay.

The report also reveals that only 14% of parents surveyed use monthly or weekly pay – a recommended financial education instrument – with their children in primary education and less than a third (29%) who do so in secondary school.

These deficiencies in financial education that begin in childhood are reflected later in adulthood, since almost half of the population (46%) rates their financial knowledge as "low" or "very low".

Financial Culture

CaixaBank has its own Financial Culture Plan, within the framework of the social axis of the Sustainable Banking Plan, which includes initiatives aimed at different types of audiences. During 2022, more than 100,000 people attended conferences, courses and workshops organized by CaixaBank, and its digital content exceeded 12.5 million views.

The entity develops three types of actions: awareness, training and knowledge creation. CaixaBank is firmly committed to contributing to the improvement of knowledge about economic and financial concepts relevant to the day-to-day decision-making of customers, shareholders, vulnerable groups and society.

Among CaixaBank's initiatives is the 'Mucho por Hacer' programme, with informative and awareness-raising content on finance disseminated through different digital media. For its part, the 'Aula' training program on economics and finance helps the entity's shareholders to expand their knowledge to make the best decisions; and through CaixaBank Research, the bank's research service, knowledge is promoted through research and economic analysis with articles and conferences. Meanwhile, the CaixaBank Volunteering programme offers workshops on basic finance, both in digital and face-to-face formats.

CaixaBank's Financial Culture Plan also includes the CaixaBank talks project, a series of talks on saving, protection and financial planning in different life situations.
