This is a significant escalation in a conflict that has lasted for a year. Since Ron DeSantis, as part of his ultra-conservative agenda, launched the "Don't Say Gay" law, which prohibits LGBT issues from being discussed in Florida schools.

Under pressure from its employees, Disney had publicly positioned itself against the law. The governor didn't like it at all. No doubt he also saw it as a rewarding fight against a giant, as part of his well-known, though not yet declared, presidential ambitions. He then decided to revoke the status granted to the company when it was set up in the late 1960s and which allows it to virtually self-administer the county where it is located.

Disney had then made organizational decisions before a new board appointed by Ron DeSantis canceled them. A few minutes later, a complaint was filed in federal court in Florida, in the name of the right to freedom of expression. Disney denounces a campaign of retaliation by the state that now affects its economic choices. Instead, a spokeswoman for the governor called it an attempt to go against the will of Florida voters.
