US President Joe Biden has warned that his predecessor, Donald Trump, poses a "danger" to American democracy, the day after the 80-year-old Biden announced his candidacy for a second term in the 2024 elections.

Trump was elected president of the United States in 2016, and sought a second term in 2020, but lost to Biden in an election that Trump considered to have witnessed fraud and manipulation, before later confirming that he would run in the next presidential election despite facing a series of judicial files.

During a news conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Biden said in response to a question about Trump, 76, "I know him very well and I know the danger he poses to our democracy."

Biden added that he may not be the only one who can defeat former President Trump in the 2024 election, but he knows him well and knows how he works.

Biden is excited

On the other hand, Biden, the oldest to be elected president of the United States, stressed that his age is not a matter of concern for him because he is "in good shape and excited" to win a second term of 4 years.

On Tuesday, Biden put an end to weeks of anticipation by announcing his candidacy for a new term, saying in a video posted on Twitter that "I am a candidate for a second term," in an announcement that the Republican Party met by accusing the current president of "breaking with reality."

Biden launched his re-election bid pledging to protect American freedoms from "extremists" associated with the former president, and it was remarkable that his candidacy announcement included showing a video of the attack by Trump supporters on January 2021, <> on the Capitol.

Biden said he would have continued his bid to run for office in 2024 even if Trump had not run, adding that he still had to do other things to complete his mission and run the United States so that it would be "economically and politically secure for a long time."
