Prosecutor Jenny Örn had asked for ten years in prison for the suspect. However, the district court sentences the man to seven years in prison.

Danger to other people's lives

The prosecutor argued that it could not be any other crime than aggravated arson as there was a risk to the life and health of several people. The district court makes the same assessment and writes in the judgment that the man must have known that there were also residential apartments in the building, but that he nevertheless started the fire. In doing so, the Court considers that the conduct endangered the lives and health of several people and that the fire was started in a densely populated community where it could easily have spread. Therefore, the act is considered aggravated arson.

The trial needed to be redone

It was in August at 02 o'clock at night that the fire in Folkets Hus in Mörsil broke out. Four people who lived in the house managed to get out unharmed. When emergency services arrived at the scene, it was found that the building was unable to be saved. In addition to apartments, the property also housed a pizzeria.

Later, a man in his 30s was arrested and charged with aggravated arson. The trial began but had to be suspended in October after a witness failed to appear. The witness was in Turkey, which had to give permission for the witness to be questioned. A permit that has taken time to obtain.

Last week, the trial was redone and on Tuesday the verdict was handed down. The man is also ordered to pay several million in damages.
