"It cannot be the case that an entire part of the country, the country's only island region, should have completely different conditions than the rest of the country. It is completely unworthy of Sweden, says Meit Fohlin (S), chairman of the regional board, Region Gotland.

Increased by 50 percent

It was at the beginning of the year that the shipping company Destination Gotland, which manages the state-procured ferry traffic to and from Gotland, announced that it was raising prices by 30% due to increased fuel costs.

According to Region Gotland, this, together with previous increases, meant that prices in traffic have risen by 50% in one year.

In February, the region sent a request for support equivalent to SEK 244-258 million per year until 2027, the time that the current traffic agreement extends.
